At Cumberland Counseling Centers, we offer a variety of evidence-based and faith-based counseling services to meet your unique mental health needs. Our experienced therapists provide the following specialized therapies:
-
EMDR
A highly effective trauma therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) uses bilateral stimulation to help process traumatic memories, reducing the emotional impact of past events.
-
IFS
IFS (Internal Family Systems Therapy) helps clients explore and harmonize the different “parts” of themselves that may be in conflict, fostering self-awareness, emotional healing, and a sense of internal balance.
-
Gottman Method
The Gottman Method is a research-based approach designed to help couples strengthen their relationships. It focuses on improving communication, deepening emotional connection, and building conflict resolution skills.
-
CBT
CBT is a widely-used, evidence-based treatment focused on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors. It helps clients develop coping strategies for conditions like anxiety, depression, and PTSD by replacing harmful thinking with healthier alternatives.
-
EFT
EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) is particularly effective for couples struggling with emotional connection. It focuses on uncovering and addressing emotional needs to create stronger, more secure attachments within relationships.
-
Christian Trauma Therapy
Christian trauma counseling incorporates faith-based principles with evidence-based therapies to help individuals recover from emotional and psychological trauma. It focuses on spiritual healing alongside emotional recovery, using scripture and prayer as integral components.
-
Play Therapy
Primarily used for children, play therapy helps them express emotions and process difficult experiences through play. It’s particularly effective for kids who may struggle to communicate their thoughts and feelings verbally.
-
Faith-based Counseling
Faith-based counseling integrates spiritual beliefs and practices into the therapeutic process. For individuals seeking a Christian approach to mental health, this therapy helps connect emotional healing with spiritual growth, providing guidance from a biblical perspective.
We're committed to making high-quality mental health care accessible to everyone by partnering with local faith organizations to offer counseling scholarships. In 2023, we provided over $77,000 in scholarships to support lower-income community members. As licensed, ethical therapists, we welcome clients from all backgrounds at our locations in Smyrna, Buckhead, Lawrenceville, and Vinings. Groups & Classes
Therapeutic Groups: Throughout the year, we offer therapy groups which provide an even deeper sense of connection to others during recovery.
Workshops: Our professionals provide workshops to our community on a range of topics. Workshops are anywhere from 2 hours to full weekends.
GriefShare Support Groups: While it may not ease the pain, understanding that grief is normal can help us cope a little better when we lose a special person or go through a significant change. These groups bring us together to lean on each other for 14 weeks. Email admin@cumberlandcenters.org for more details.
Restoring Your Heart Groups: This 14 week group helps individuals identify past areas of pain and places them on a pathway of forgiveness and healing. This could be your very first step in restoring your heart, or one of many steps along the way. But this group will help you understand your past and the effect it has on your present life, help you become more self-aware, help you become more God-aware, provide a pathway to forgiveness and, ultimately, bring you into a closer relationship with God, yourself and others. Visit our Groups page to register.
