There are several reasons you might choose to pay out of pocket:
Privacy: Paying privately ensures that no mental health diagnosis is reported to your insurance company. This is important for individuals who want to maintain maximum confidentiality and avoid a pre-existing condition on their health record.
Flexibility: When you pay out of pocket, you have more control over the type of therapy you receive and the duration of your treatment. Insurance companies may limit the number of sessions or the specific therapeutic modalities they will cover.
No Diagnosis Required: Insurance companies typically require a formal mental health diagnosis to cover services. Paying out of pocket means you don't need to meet a diagnostic criterion to receive care.
